UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply worried by the recent increase in tensions in the Middle East, where the United States killed leading Iranian leader Qassem Soleimani following violent protests at its embassy in Baghdad.
” The Secretary-General has regularly advocated for de-escalation in the Gulf. He is deeply interested in the recent escalation,” stated his representative, Farhan Haq, in a declaration. “This is a moment in which leaders must exercise optimal restraint. The world can not afford another war in the Gulf.”
