Thursday on MSNBC’s “Latest thing,” Home Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) stated if Congress was postponed in receiving the monetary records of President Donald Trump because of court fights, “the nation continues to be at jeopardy throughout that delay.”

In a clip responding to today’s Supreme Court decisions, Attorney general of the United States William Barr stated, “Well, undoubtedly, we were dissatisfied in the decision to the level it did decline our argument, the government’s argument, about the extent of the president’s immunity. But as a practical matter, the decision made extremely clear that the president simply is not at the grace of litigants and investigators which there are defenses and defenses that can be raised.”

O’Donnell said, “Your reaction to that, Mr. Chairman?”

Schiff stated, “Well, I’m not shocked that Barr discovers it a bitter pill to swallow that the president is not above the law. He takes the legal view that basically the president can’t breach the law since he is the law, and Bill Barr is basically the hand of the president to execute his will. It’s why the Justice Department under Barr doesn’t represent justice. It doesn’t represent the general public interest. It is essentially like a second defense lawyer and defense counsel for the president. However, you know, luckily, you understand, as I mentioned, we have a, once again, an affirmation even by justices that Donald Trump appointed that, no, as 200 years of jurisprudence show, this president is not above the law. He must comply with the legal procedure.”

He included, “You understand, the trouble is that Expense Barr and Donald Trump will do whatever they can to delay. We will go back to the district court. We are extremely confident we can meet these brand-new tests that the Supreme Court enumerated, this four-part test. And, so, we will prevail, however again if we get the records and they show, in fact, that the president is beholden, does have financial entanglements that might describe, you know, for instance, this unusual affinity for Vladimir Putin and Russia or his interest in Turkey’s Erdogan or Saudi Arabia or other financial interests that are directing and warping U.S. policy, if we don’t get that for months up until– you understand, from months from now, it implies the nation continues to be at jeopardy during that hold-up.”
