Politics Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) stood his ground in an interview with taxpayer-funded National Public Radio (NPR), defending President Donald Trump and slamming Democrats for a “political” impeachment questions.
” The American individuals have had enough,” Banks stated in an interview on NPR’s All Things Considered on Wednesday. “They wish to speak for themselves on Election Day, not allow members of Congress to overturn the will of individuals through this procedure.”
Banks mentioned, as other Republicans have done, that Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) chose to forgo the normal process of holding a floor vote on a Home resolution on an impeachment questions led by the Judiciary Committee.
There are 6 various committees who are using up impeachment inquiry hearings, however at this point, we haven’t gone through the normal– absolutely nothing about this is regular– however the procedure that impeachment is expected to go through is for the Judiciary Committee to instruct short articles of impeachment and pass it out of committee and permit every member on the flooring of the House to vote on moving this forward.
He discussed that the factor for not going through the typical proceedings was since “this process is totally political.”
Banks also knocked Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), saying he lied about not consulting with the “whistleblower” ahead of his problem.
Host Michel Martin pressed Rely on whether or not he discovered what Trump stated on his phone call with the Ukrainian president “problematic” and duplicating the incorrect claim that the president asked him to examine previous Vice President Joe Biden and his child Hunter Biden for dealings in Ukraine.
” Yeah, that is not an accurate description of the transcript,” Banks stated. “I have actually checked out the records. I have actually checked out the whistleblower account.”
” And in neither one of those files exists something that appears to be high criminal activities and misdemeanors, which is what the Establishing Fathers produced the impeachment process to account for to begin with,” Banks said. “It should just be used in extraordinary scenarios to impeach a president for high criminal offenses and misdemeanors.”
” I have yet to hear an account by any Democrat on Capitol Hill of where the high criminal activities and misdemeanors are found in the whistleblower account or the records,” Banks said.
Martin defended her description of the phone discussion, stating she had the transcript; and, moreover, the inquiry is about analysis of what was said.
” Well, I would enjoy to hear you read the part of the records that would indict the president of high criminal activities and misdemeanors,” Banks stated. “I indicate, it’s not there.”
Martin asked whether the White Home would comply with Congress, even if Trump released the records of the telephone call in concern.
” Well, simply on your program a bit ago, you quoted the president saying that he would cooperate,” Banks stated.
Banks restated about the various committees examining the president.
” You have committees like the Financial Providers Committee taking up the impeachment question,” Banks stated. “What on the planet does the Financial Solutions Committee involve impeachment?”
” That’s because, again, this is all political,” Banks stated. “This is about Democrats that wish to get in the evening news cycle and talk about impeachment and pacify their left-wing base and lessen this president and cripple him going into the election in 2020.”
Martin’s last concern had to do with Trump defending himself on social media with “some obscenity” and “labels.”
” The president is worthy of the chance to protect himself,” Banks said. “But what we just found out a few hours ago about Adam Schiff lying about not speaking to the whistleblower when the whole time he was managing the whistleblower account, that’s really uncomfortable to me.”
Banks’ final zinger in the interview was revealing that he and others have signed a movement to censure Schiff.
