NBC News White Home reporter Peter Alexander stated on Sunday’s “Fulfill journalism” that President Donald Trump was “the leader of the resistance against his own policies” by motivating protests against state stay-at-home orders when the federal government has set out strict resuming standards.
Host Chuck Todd asked, “Peter, the way this reaction has worked in the past is that they dig their heels in, they’re not going to do something, not going to do something, and actually they’ll do a180 What’s the probability they do a 180 and say you’re right, we should take over screening?”
Alexander stated, “I believe you saw them attempt to detail what they deem the nationwide testing method in your discussion with the vice president, but I’m struck by the continued blended messaging by this administration here. Consider the president with the liberate tweets about Minnesota, Michigan, and Virginia, all 3 states with Democratic guvs, all thee states are battlefields. In impact, here you have the president as the leader of the resistance versus his own policies. Right?”
He continued, “The bottom line is, back and forth, as soon as again on this concern. One day, he claimed total authority. The next day, he’s blaming the governors. They put out the standards, the day after that, he says, hey, we need to remove the standards in effect in those places.”
He added, “Consider his previous combined messages on issues like the masks when the CDC put out its guidelines and moments later on, the president said, I don’t actually plan to use it, and back and forth on the DPA also. This is an unmatched moment.”
