Monday on CNN’s “OutFront,” former Gov. John Kasich (R-OH), who is set to speak in support of Joe Biden for president at the Democratic National Convention, stated Evangelicals’ support for Trump was not “constant with the things that they think in as promoted in the Old and New Testament.”
Kasich pointed to Democratic governmental nominee previous Vice President Joe Biden’s faith as a determining factor in his assistance.
Kasich stated, “I would encourage other Republicans to understand that it is fine to remove a partisan hat, remove your partisan hat and vote on the basis of what your conscience tells you about the future of our nation, not simply for yourself however for your kids also.”
He continued, “I think Biden can bring us together. I’ll disagree with Joe on things, and they expected that when they asked me to do this. I stated yeah, there are things I’ll disagree with Biden on. There are things I’m worried about. At the end of the day, I believe he is a male of faith. I think he is a man, look, his history has been an ability to bring individuals together. That is the way it was when I remained in Congress when we balanced the spending plan. We’re able to do welfare reform. And I think he can bring back civility. I do not think he’ll go hard left. I believe he is a quite ruffian. So I’m comfy with the truth that he would be our leader. And I expect he’ll have Republicans that will be part of anything he does going forward. That’s the method– that is his nature and has actually been history. And he is a man of deep faith. And a male that has actually suffered some incredible sorrow that has shaped his character, all some of the important things I will speak about in my speech.”
Anchor Erin Burnett asked, “So Southern Baptist Minister, he is ordained, Mike Huckabee said the other day in part, ‘I don’t know if anybody, individuals of faith who think Joe Biden is a great option. I tell you they’re not going to go with Biden. That’s not an option.’ What do you state?
Kasich stated, “Well, I’m clued in to a great deal of individuals of faith, a variety of them, who are extremely delighted that I’m making this choice. I can provide you names. I do not desire to state it on the air, however I can give you names of them if we have to return and do that. And the fact is, you know, the faith is a matter of your personal relationship. And so I do not know why that’s been stated about Joe. I believe he is a guy of faith. I don’t sit down and speak about all of his faith with him, however I’m comfy with him. I, like I state, I consider myself to be a male of faith. A flawed male of faith for sure, however aren’t we all? So I don’t think any person can promote the entire faith neighborhood and try to state that this person is great and that person isn’t. A lot of individuals scratch their heads about why some of these really conservative Evangelicals support Trump. It appears not to be constant with the things that they think in as promoted in the Old and New Testament.”
