Politics The Second Circuit Court of Appeals approved President Donald Trump an emergency stay on Monday after a federal judge in New York City stated the president needs to turn over years of tax filings and other monetary records to Manhattan prosecutors.
Earlier Monday, President Trump’s claim to avoid his personal and corporate tax returns from being launched to the public got thrown out in a lower Manhattan court Monday.
U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero in the Southern District of New York City ruled that keeping the taxes could “annoy the administration of justice” in regard to President Trump’s conduct.
The president’s lawyers argued that he “delights in absolute resistance from criminal process of any kind.” They likewise compete that this examination into his taxes is politically motivated and must be stopped.
Marrero disagreed.
” Hence, the expansive notion of constitutional immunity invoked here to protect the president from judicial procedure would constitute an overreach of executive power,” Marrero said.
Manhattan District Lawyer Cyrus Vance Jr. subpoenaed the tax records in a probe into whether the Trump Organization violated the law in accounting for hush money payments made to two women before Trump’s election.
Following the judgment, President Trump implicated Democrats of pressuring Manhattan prosecutors to look for his monetary records for political gain.
” The Radical Left Democrats have stopped working on all fronts, so now they are pressing local New york city City and State Democrat district attorneys to go get President Trump. A thing like this has never ever taken place to any President prior to. Not even close!” he tweeted.
