There are completely excellent celebrity design minutes, and then there are the looks that truly stick to you, the ones you try frantically to recreate in the house. In ‘ Terrific Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are reviewing their all-time preferred lewks.
Diana Ross has had no shortage of show-stopping appearances throughout her decades-long career as a genuine musical icon, however even she was not in sequins 24/ 7. And back in 1979, she handled to look just as amazing in a ripped Tee shirts and perfect-fitting denims as she performed in a sparkling Bob Mackie gown. It’s no surprise where her daughter Tracee got it from.
This image of her on the dance floor at Studio 54 struck me for a number of reasons: the casualness of her clothing, the candidness of it, the pure delight in her expression. You get the sense that she ‘d been running around New York City all the time and desired to top all of it off by dancing with buddies at the hottest club of perpetuity. Maybe Bianca Jagger was throughout the space in a dress, however Ross felt just as cool and free in the clothing she had actually been wearing that day– all the much better for sweating through a hot dance session.
Being inside in such close proximity to other people might not be very relatable today, however wanting to use a ripped-up graphic tee throughout this heat wave certainly is.
